Mountain Biking and Hiking
After our 8am pick up from the Docks in Galway our 1st stop is Derroura Mountain Bike Trail, Oughterard. This trail is provided by Coillte (Irish Forestry) and is 17km in length. The trails here will challenge all levels of experience and will give you immense views of the Maam valley and the Twelve Pins mountain range. Derroura offers you some incredible mountain biking in some of the most spectacular scenes in Connemara. As the saying goes ‘what goes up must come down’ so your hard work of ascending will be rewarded with thrilling descents and great views overlooking Lough Corrib from the halfway point of the trails.
Do not worry if this is your 1st time or 100th time mountain biking as our group leaders will accommodate all levels and speed.
2-3 hours later with sweat dropping from your brow and your feet back on the base of the trail, it is time to continue the venture. It is back on the bus and onwards through the majestic landscape of Connemara. As we pass through the Inagh Valley you will ponder to yourself if you want to leave this beautiful place. It is some of the most amazing scenery in the world and you will be in awe of the mirror lakes and the alluring mountainous ranges.
Onwards we go to Letterfrack village at the heart of the Connemara National Park. Upon arriving we will eat lunch and prepare for a hike in the National Park. Nestled at the back of Letterfrack village is the Diamond Hill. The ‘Diamond’ will provide us with a nice moderate climb approx. 2hr up and down. The summit of the Diamond provides 360” views of the National Park and Atlantic Ocean which are absolutely breath taking.
Upon descending we will visit one of the villages charismatic pubs for a well earned refreshing drink in front of a warm fire before we head back to the city of the tribes.
